Evaluation - Week 6 Peer Review

Now we have reached the half way point in this assignment it was time to review my progress and gather some feedback in the aim to improve what I already had created. The first aspect of this was Peer Review. This took place on the Monday of week 6. We began by working with a partner and reviewing each others work. This was something I was initially nervous about however I was paired up with Khyle Flores so this made me feel a little better. We were given a sheet which we had the mark scheme on and then a second sheet which allowed the partner to write feedback and check which mandatory techniques had been used. The below scanned image shows the mark scheme which we worked with and then the feedback which Khyle gave me.

First Khlye looked at my Photoshop work with me. We began by looking at the mandatory techniques which I had used. For this piece of work we both agreed that I had used all of the techniques which were required. Khyle then began to look for ways which I could improve and aspects which she thought boosted my grade. Khyle gave me four comments about my work. The first comment was that I had used self taught features. This was an aspect which gave me higher marks which can be referred to in the mark scheme. The next comment Khyle gave was that the DVD inlay was very pink. This was a simple passing comment. The third comment Khyle left was an idea on how I could improve. Khyle suggested that I tired refining the edges of the actors so that small white lines around their body were no longer on show. The final comment which Khyle gave me was that she liked the way I had edited Cameron Diaz. This feedback was good overall. Khyle was able to give me both positive and constructive feedback. This gave me something to work on as well as something to be proud of. Khlye then referred to the mark scheme and gave me a percentage based on how well she thought I had done. For this Photoshop piece of work Khyle graded me 60/69%. I am very pleased with this result and hope that this can be achieved when I come to hand this piece of work in.

Now that we had looked at my DVD inlay we began to look at my Disk Design. I didn't manage to get as far with this aspect as I had with my Photoshop however we reviewed my progress so far. Like previously we started by looking at the mandatory features which I had to use. The only feature which I hadn't managed to use yet was the Text Wrap. This was something I was previously aware of and just needed to implement and hence this wasn't a shock to me. With this in mind Khyle began to make comments like above. Her first comment was that the gradient which I had used was good. The constructive criticism came next. Kyle suggested that I should look into different untaught features in order to boost my grade. Khyle finally stated that I could improve my grade by removing the white background from the DVD Video logo, this would improve the professionalism. Khyle then referred to the mark scheme and gave me a percentage based on how well she thought I had done. Looking at this together it became clear that without any self taught features I was stuck at between 40 and 49%. Although this is a Pass this wasn't something I was particularly happy with and an area which I need to improve.

Overall Khyles feedback and allowed me to see which areas are good and which areas still need improvement. She was constructive and positive which made me feel comfortable and showing my work. The next stage of the week 6 feedback was swapping partners. The second person I was paired up with was Tony. Tony is a Lecturer at PRC and hence his feedback was very different to Khyles, this was neither a good or bad thing they were just noticeably different. The feedback sheet from Tony can be seen below.

Tony began by checking off the mandatory features which I had used. This was all of them again like I had already discussed with Khyle. Tony then commented, he started with positive feedback stating that the piece of work I had achieved was excellent and then moved on to give me three areas which I could improve. The first area was in relation to the size of the age rating logos. Tony suggested that there might be a standard size which these have to be and this was something I could look into. The second piece of feedback I received was in relation to the information about the film in the bottom table. Tony mentioned the regional code and how this was missing on my DVD inlay. He wasn't 100% sure whether this was a mandatory feature on all DVD's or even what the region code was however he suggested it was something I could look into again like the age rating aspects. The final piece of feedback which Tony gave me was to look into increasing the sizes of the actor names in the top bar on the front of my DVD inlay. This was an aspect which I hadn't thought about and my train of thought led me to set these actor names out to fit the layout of the image on the front of the inlay. This is something I can play around with at a later stage. Tony then referred to the mark scheme and gave me a percentage based on how well he thought I had done. For this Photoshop piece of work Tony graded me 80/89%. This was a lot higher than what Khlye had graded me for this piece of work and I personally wouldn't expect to reach quite this high, I would be aiming for somewhere in the middle of these two percentages.

Now that we had looked at my DVD inlay we began to look at my Disk Design. I didn't manage to get as far with this aspect as I had with my Photoshop however we reviewed my progress so far. As previously stated with Khyle this aspect was not complete and I was hence not expecting as high marks. We began by going through the mandatory features. I had used all of these except the Text Wrap tool. I explained to Tony what I planned to do with this tool and he then ticked this off as he said I would clearly be using this tool and that it wasn't something to worry about. Like previously noted he then gave me some positive feedback, Tony said how this aspect of my assignment was another great piece of work and then proceeded to give me three areas which I could improve. The first area was to complete the text wrap. The second was to check the size of the age rating logos like he mentioned for the DVD inlay and the third aspect was to create and add a company logo. Tony then referred to the mark scheme and gave me a percentage based on how well he thought I had done. Tony gave me 70/79%. This is much higher than Khyle and based on the fact that it is not yet finished and doesn't contain all of the mandatory features I feel this is slightly generous.

Overall I feel this peer review feedback has worked well and I have gathered a variety of positive and constructive feedback which I can now act upon. I feel this could have been improved by gathering another couple of opinions and maybe looking at this stage slightly earlier in the process when designs were still in place to see if we could gather better ideas from each other. The next stage of this week 6 evaluation is to gather feedback from the Lecturer. This feedback will be discussed in a later blog post.
