For the next stage of the second half of my assignment I have started to look into and put together my disk ideas. The two ideas which I have come up with are simply guides and neither would be the final piece due to the fact that I took less care and time in producing these. The two designs I have come up with are very different and hence this has probably made my decision even harder. The below image is my first design idea.
The first thing I can see with this design is the continuity between the first and second stage of my assignment. I feel this design definitely flows and follows on from my DVD inlay which is a good trait to fulfil. I particularly like the clouds on this disk design. I feel this mixture of hand created features and the image which I put together at the first stage of my assignment work well together. This was something I was worried wouldn't look right but the end result is actually really effective. I feel the gradient sky in this image was an idea I simply took from my DVD inlay, I do like this effect but I am unsure how I feel about this gradient with the clouds. I simply added the age rating to the bottom of this design to give a better impression of what my final design could look like. I do however like the positioning of this. The issue that I have with this design is the title. I don't feel this is massively effective and my reasoning behind this is the gradient. If I decide that this will be the idea I move forward with I would like to look at using a full colour background and compare this with the gradient, look at different colours and styles for the title (this could be difficult as I want to use the same font as I used for the DVD inlay to keep the two documents consistent) and finally the positioning of the title. This could look better in different places and is something I would need to look into. My second design idea can be seen below.
This design idea is less like my DVD inlay than the previous. I thought that this would bother me but it surprisingly didn't. I really like the style of this disk cover and the block idea which I designed earlier also works really well. The main thing which grabs me with this design are the colours. I feel the colours on this disk work perfectly together and also tie in nicely with the colours of the girls dresses. These colours are used in my DVD inlay however the purple is used on a smaller scale and hence this does worry me slightly. The title along the top of the central rectangle seems to work well however my issue is with the size of this. In order for it to stay in this position I wouldn't be able to make it any larger and this isn't ideal as I feel it might be a touch too small. The positioning of the objects on this disk are really effective. I like the way the girls sit under the general line and I like the way the title and the age rating sit on a line. I feel this could look to polished and this leads me on to the adaptations I would make if I was to take this on as my final design idea. I would firstly try changing the colours around for the background. Seen as pink is my primary colour throughout this assignment I could try having pink as the main background and then using the purple as the simple rectangular bar. I would also like to test the size of the title leaving it in the current position and compare this to the title in a variation of positions. My biggest issue with this design is incorporating all of the required tools into this quite simple design. I question how the pen and brush tool could be used and hence this is also something I would need to look into further.
